My Personal Development Blog New Title - My Journey To Living An Exceptional Life

You must have noticed that my Personal Development Blog title has changed to

My Journey To Living An Exceptional Life

After reading back my previous posts, I realized that this Personal Development blog has taken its own life, manifesting my thoughts and learnings into a world of its own. I have initially wanted to blog on success through internet, focusing on internet business and Success University courses that teaches self development.

But some how, all the posts ended up sharing my personal experience, excerpting articles from my favorite motivational speakers and of course those touching and funny video clips.

When I look at the old Title "Albert's Internet Success Journal (Success University)", it seems no longer reflecting what my personal development blog really is. I decided to change it to current new title "My Journey To Living An Exceptional Life", this is what my blog is all about, to share my journey to living an exceptional life! (Inspired by my favorite mentor - Jim Rohn)

I will continue to share my experience, the ups and downs of embarking on this journey to Exceptional Living, I am still a long way there, but every step is a step nearer to my dreams, to my exceptional life!!

I hope you will join me on this personal development journey to living an Exceptional Life!

Cheers!

React And Response - The 2 R That Make Or Break Your Day

React and Response, the 2 R that make or break your day. What do I mean?

Everyday in our life, 90% of the time we are either Reacting or Responding to an event, incident or situation. You drink water because you are responding to your thirst. You yawn because you are feeling sleeping. You smile because someone smiles at you!

Reaction is a response without going through a logical reasoning. When you see a person in front of you suddenly trip and fall, your immediate reaction is to stretch out your hands and try to grab him before he lands on the floor, even if he is someone you hated. This is because you are reacting to the incident, you do not have the time to think about the situation or who is the person you trying to save!

But if you are not careful, many reactions can have serious negative impact to your day.

For example, earlier on today, I told my brother that our hair-dryer was spoiled. He went over and checked the device, and surprisingly it was working fine! My mum came over and said there was nothing wrong with the hair-dryer but the main power plug was switched off! My immediate reaction was "Impossible! I have checked the plug, I would not have made such silly mistake! Are you sure it is the switch?? You must have done something to the hair-dryer!!" The sentence just came out before I can stop it.

But immediately after saying those words, I stop myself and tried to recall, and realize that I really forgot to check the main power plug! Immediately I apologize to my mum for being rude, and joked at myself being so silly to make such a mistake! Phew... luckily she accepted my apology!

There are times when we are in a bad mood, and we react to people by being rude and offensive, and as a result, our day get worse as time passed. There are also times when we are defensive and react negatively to a comment, even if it is true.

Try to make a conscious effort to keep track of your actions, and make sure they are responses and not reactions without thinking, especially those negative reactions. And make amends immediately whenever you realized that you have reacted wrongly.

Life is short, make it beautiful!

Cheers!

What We Focus On Affects Our Results In Life!

Today I would like to post an article from Adam Khoo explaining what we focus on will affects our results in life. I can relate to what he said, as I used to keep repeating the images of me making some serious mistakes, and keep dwelling on it. As true as it is, i made the same mistake again, and keep scolding myself "Why am I so stupid??" The more I scolded myself, the more mistakes i made.

Now that I have understood the Law Of Attraction, I have been making a conscious effort to focus on positive results, and remembered the lessons learned from mistakes made, and move on with a better life! :)

What We Focus On Affects Our Results In Life!
-----

At any given second, there are two million bits of information
bombarding us. While it is impossible to consciously be aware of
everything, our mind tends to filter all this stimuli and focus on
a few chunks of information at a time.

Similarly, when we think of something in the past or something in the
future, we tend to focus on certain aspects of the experience. And to us
what we choose to focus on becomes most real in our minds.

Some people have a pattern of focusing on pictures, sounds and
feelings that put them into un-resourceful states while others
generate pictures, sounds and feelings them put them into
resourceful states.

How about you? What do you do when you meet with failure? Some
people keep playing mind pictures of themselves screwing up. Some
people even play it like a bad movie, over and over again in their
heads.

They keep seeing themselves making the bad decisions, experiencing
the consequences and they re-play all the negative voices around
them. They may play the sound of their boss shouting at them. Then
they run an internal dialogue that goes like this: 'How could I
have been so stupid!' 'Why do I always screw things up?'

What kind of pictures and sounds should one play to produce a
resourceful state?

Well, this is what positive people do when they encounter failure.
They choose to re-present the failure as feedback that will lead
them into finding a solution. Instead of re-playing scenes of the
event or project that flopped, they focus on what they can learn
from it, and how they will do it the next time...to get good results.

They may even imagine themselves succeeding, using what they have
learnt from the past experience, and their success would be
accompanied by the sounds of people cheering or the boss
congratulating them.

They may play an internal dialogue that goes something like this:
'I'll make it the next time for sure', 'I'll prove that I can turn
things around'. Or they'll say reflectively:' Now, what can I learn
from this experience'.

Our minds are never still or idle...throughout our waking hours we
play mental programs continuously. Now, start becoming aware of the
kind of mental program you usually run, when you are about to take
on a challenging task?

For example, just before making an important presentation or
writing a difficult report, what goes on in your mind?

Are you one of those who habitually focus on how difficult it is
going to be? Do you see yourself being overwhelmed and stressed
out? Do you mutter under your breath, 'Oh no! How am I ever going
to do this?' 'What if I screw up?' 'It's just too difficult!' You
may even picture yourself screwing up or giving up. As a result you
get into a state of nervous anxiety.

But can you choose to represent the challenge very differently in
your mind? Of course! You could choose to focus on how easy, fun
and rewarding the challenge will be. Confident people will picture
themselves dealing with the task or project effortlessly. They may
even have an internal voice saying, 'I am finally getting this
done! This is so rewarding!' 'I knew I could do it.'

Now, given the same challenge, why do some people rise to it while
others feel apprehension? The interesting fact is that most of us
do not consciously decide what pictures, sounds and feelings we are
going to generate in our mind.

Our mind seems to be on auto-pilot and, within seconds of being
faced with a challenge, it will subconsciously, create
re-presentations. And the kinds of re-presentations created are
dependent on past conditioning.

Isn't this scary? It appears that we do not have much control over
our mind! This is why most people feel that their emotions control
them.

Begin by paying full attention to the 'program' that is running in
your brain-mind. If you find that what you are thinking of is not
putting you in a resourceful state, then change it! In short,
consciously change WHAT you focus on! You may keep slipping back,
and each time you do, pull yourself up and re-focus.

If you want to have mastery over your mind and emotions, then you
must begin right away to control what you focus on!

To Your Success,

Do What You Learned And Teach What You Do!

Do what you learned and teach what you do, that is the key to understanding what you are studying. Until you do and teach, you will never know what you do not know!

I have a colleague who is in charge of doing month end closing every month. On the last day of each month, she will bring out the instruction manual and follow the instruction step by step to do the closing. Yesterday when she was supposed to do the month end closing, she misplaced the instruction manual and couldn't find it. So she had to do it without the manual.

She has been doing the month end closing for the past 7-8 months so imagine the dis-believed I was having when I saw her totally lost after logging to the system! Without the instruction manual, she could not remember a single step of what she was supposed to do! It was a very simple 2 parts process with a few steps, but she just cannot remember.

For the past 7-8 months, she has been following the instructions in the manual without thinking or understanding what she is doing. So when she misplaced the manual and has to really "Do It" herself, she got stuck. She has never do what she has learned!

Do what you learned and teach what you do! Do not just read those personal development books, you can read one thousand times, but you will only truly understand and internalized them the day you do it! And when you teach someone what you are doing, you are learning and internalizing the lesson one more time. And many times, there will be questions that set you thinking in angles you never realized before and resulting in deeper understanding.

I set up this blog for a selfish reason, that is to share with everybody the knowledge i have, so that every time I share, I learned the lesson one more time.

So be selfish,

Do what you learned and teach what you do!

Cheers!
